Sand Fire Update

The Sand fire has burned approximately 1300 acres. There have been three structures destroyed. Between two hundred to two hundred and fifty people have been evacuated. Those evacuated have been a mixture of voluntary and mandatory evacuee’s. At this point,there has been one reported minor injury to a firefighter. Over 500 Firefighters are currently assigned to the Sand incident. Air resources included six Cal Fire air tankers and the DC 10. Cal Fire and the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office are being assisted by multiple federal, state and local agencies. Sandridge Road is going to remain closed and will be reassessed at noon tomorrow. Mandatory evacuations are still in effect on the south side of Sandridge Road from Highway 49 to Morning Canyon Road at the intersection of Ladies Valley Road. The Red Cross shelter is up and running for evacuee’s and animals at the El Dorado County Fairgrounds. There will be an updated joint press release tomorrow.
