Homeowner Stops Attempted Theft

On November 20, 2014 at about 3:40 am, Deputies were dispatched to the report of two males arguing near the 5000 block of Metate Trail in the Oak Hill area of El Dorado County. This was followed by the sounds of gunshots.  Deputies arrived to find a male with injuries, who was transported to the hospital by paramedics.

The preliminary investigation indicated a homeowner on Calamity Lane observed two males on his property that he believed were stealing items.  When the homeowner attempted to contact them, they fled towards Metate Trail.  As the homeowner caught up to one them, the homeowner fired a warning shot. When the homeowner who was in his vehicle attempted to get in front of the male running away, the male was inadvertently hit by the homeowner’s vehicle.

The second male was located nearby after running away from Deputies.  He was taken into custody with the assistance of the Placerville Police K-9.  He was booked into the El Dorado County Jail for resisting arrest and theft related charges.

The investigation into this incident is continuing with the Investigations Unit of the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office.  Therefore, no further details or booking photos are available at this time.  Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective James Peterson at (50) 642-4713 or Detective Ken Barber at (530 642-4710.
