The Sand Fire has burned approximately 4,000 acres. The fire is 20% contained. There have been a total of 606 voluntary evacuations and 477 mandatory evacuations. Sandridge Road is going to remain closed until further notice.East 16 at Fairplay is closed to the El Dorado County line. The reverse 911 system used by the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office of Emergency Service was utilized five separate times to warn over one thousand citizens as the fire progressed.Those residents who use a cellular phone as their sole means of telephonic communication are urged to register their device with the Sheriff’s OES self registration portal. This can be done by typing ready.edso.org in your URL/search bar.
The Red Cross Evacuation Center was moved from the El Dorado County Fairgrounds to the Ponderosa High School gymnasium. Domestic animals are welcome and can be brought with their owners and caged outside of the evacuation center with the exception of horses. Horses are not permitted at the Ponderosa Evacuation Center If you come across a stray animal or have become separated from your pet you can contact El Dorado County Animal Services at www.edcgov.us/animalservices.
To check on evacuees or loved ones, the Red Cross has also set up their "Safe and Well" website. The website is accessible at www.redcross.org/safeandwell. There are two ways to search:by phone number and name or by name and complete address.

Current Situation: Due to the extreme fire conditions that took place this afternoon the fire increased in size to over 4000 acres in a very short period of time. It continues to spread to the north east. The firefighters will continue to reestablish containment lines and strengthen those that exist. The fire is in an area of steep terrain making it difficult in some areas to access. |
