The King Fire Reaches 100 Percent Containment
Placerville, CA… After a grueling month for firefighters and local communities alike, Forest Supervisor Laurence Crabtree announced that the King Fire is 100 percent contained.
“Thank you to our partners and the local community for their support during the King Fire,” said Forest Supervisor Laurence Crabtree. “This unprecedented event has tested our expertise and expanded our abilities to work with each other. We have seen the community come together to show their support in many touching ways.”
The Eldorado National Forest, El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office and CalFire worked in unity to meld the knowledge and experience of the three agencies together creating a strong team capable of fighting the fire strategically while addressing the complex needs of the community and keeping people safe and informed.
Other cooperating agencies; such as, California Highway Patrol, Red Cross, California Office of Emergency Services, El Dorado Irrigation District, Sacramento Municipal Utility District, Sierra Pacific Industries, Pacific Gas & Electric, Placer County Water Agency, Placer County Sheriffs, and the California Conservation Corp played a critical role in helping us serve the community and firefighters.
The hundreds of signs, letters, and cards to the firefighters show the supportive nature of this community. At numerous community meetings, on Facebook, and in person at information points in the communities we heard your appreciation of the firefighters and concern for their safety. We are proud to serve you.
Even though the fire is 100% contained it is not “out”. People can expect to see smoke from the interior of the fire area until the area experiences significant rain or snow fall this winter. A Burned Area Emergency Response (BAER) Team is here assessing the post-fire threats to life, safety, property, and critical natural and cultural resources on the National Forest.
